Background:
St Peter's was built in 1956 for the Catholic community on the north side of Plymouth. It features 10 classrooms and long corridors on three floors. The school is situated in the middle of a council estate and serves a huge area of six parishes. There are 'strong' links with the parish of St Peters. There is a 'high standard' of sporting and musical achievement. For example, St Paul's has been Plymouth school athletics champion for six out of the last seven years. In addition to a 'strong' soccer team, the tag rugby team have been runners-up in the area final for three out of the last seven years, and gave a demonstration at Twickenham before the 1996 England v Wales match. The singing group hosts concerts and musical productions of a 'very high standard'. The school has a 'happy and caring atmosphere with a Catholic ethos permeating throughout'.
