Set on level site on edge of village, near Paignton, with uninterrupted views across Dartmoor; serves mixed residential rural community of Compton, Marldon and Westerland, featured in Elizabeth Goudge's novel, Gentian Hill. new school hall dedicated by Bishop of Exeter in 2003; palns for further improvements, with new ICT suite, library and Key Stage 1 cloakroom. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. 'The school is very much part of the village community and this influences its work.' Close links with local church; much use of church for study and special celebrations; children serve neighbourhood lunches in village once a fortnight; parent-teacher association is 'strong and committed'. Charities supported include Children's Society, Children's Hospice Southwest, Factory Row, and British Heart Foundation. Music specialist supports Key Stage 2 pupils one afternoon a week; peripatetic teachers give individual music lessons. After-school clubs include football, tag rugby, recorders, drama, French, and sword and maypole dancing.
