Background:
St Sidwell's School dates back to 1665, when it was established by the Dean and Chapter of Exeter Cathedral in a small schoolroom in the churchyard of St Sidwell's Parish Church. The school was founded to impart Christian education according to the beliefs and practices of the Church of England. The school was relocated a number of times the present school was built in 1853, and has subsequently been extended at various times since. The school has strong links with local communities and businesses; good relationships with other city institutions including the university and Exeter College ' both formally and informally through their parents; many local groups enjoy its facilities. A range of extra-curricular activities is offered through a variety of clubs. The school aims to create a happy, interesting and stimulating environment, which has the Christian faith as its foundation.
