Background:
Formed in 1983 from merger of two former high schools: Hele's for Boys and Bishop Blackall for Girls; occupies 'modern and well-equipped' buildings on fine site on eastern edge of city. Good sports facilities provided in form of large playing field and sports hall with a climbing wall. Indoor facilities include specialist rooms for all subjects, drama studio, video area, science laboratories, computer room and well-equipped library. Extra-curricular activities include school bank, guitar club, choir, pop group, Combined Cadet Force, environment club, chess club, juggling, sailing and fund-raising. About 150 pupils receive instrumental tuition; two orchestras and numerous singing and instrumental groups. Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme; Young Enterprise. Drama is 'strong', with annual main production. French and German exchanges; ski trips abroad. 'St Peter's offers an accepting and caring Christian community in which all individuals (governors, staff and students) aspire to excellence'.
