Background:
Silverton School is set on the edge of the village of Silverton in about 2 acres of grounds, with views across the Exe Valley towards Dartmoor. The village is of Saxon origin and boasts many fine historic buildings, three churches, three pubs, shops and a thriving local village community. The school has been on its present site since 1975. A new classroom and classroom extension were completed in 2001. There are 5 classes catering for pupils from four-11 years. The majority of pupils then transfer to the popular Clyst Vale Community College at Broadclyst. The school has 21 computers, 13 of which are networked and connected to the Internet. The provision is based both in a suite and in classroom bases. Information and Communication Technology is taught as a separate subject and incorporated into other curriculum areas. There are a number of clubs run by staff and parents for the children, either at lunch time or after school. These include: Football, Netball, Choir, Gardening, Singing, Speech & Drama and Handbells.
