Background:
Modbury Primary was built in 1881 and originally served pupils up to school leaving age. In 1958, the older children were moved to seperate secondary schools leaving Modbury as a primary. The main building consists of a two storey block with three extra classrooms separated from the main block. The staffroom and staff resources area are in the old school house. Additional finance from the Parent-Teacher Association has allowed the creation of a library in one of the upstairs rooms. There has been building to provide two further classrooms and a new administrative office. The school also has a music room which all children get the chance to work in. There is a school choir and five music clubs for various different skills. Woodwind lessons are offered to all Key Stage 2 children. The school hall is used by others in the community in the evenings. A range of sporting opportunities are available which make use of the playing fields and school swimming pool. These include rugby, football, netball, athletics and swimming. The grounds also have areas for environmental work.
