Background:

The Church House dates from around the 1550's and is said to be one of the oldest school buildings in Devon. It was originally used as a Poorhouse to the Parish, but in 1818 it was recorded that two rooms were let out as a 'National School' with about 100 pupils. Nowadays, the school has been recently re-furbished to house four classrooms, a hall and a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology suite. Although the playground is small, the school has a lovely garden 'quiet' area with pond and seating and outdoor classroom space. The school offers a good range of extra curricular activities, these include: science, sport, art, design, gardening, drama and music. The school has won School Achievement Award (2002), Artsmark Silver (2003) and Activemark Gold (2003). Kenton is a friendly, caring and welcoming school. The school encourages their children to participate actively in their learning and enjoy their time at school. The children are confident and happy members of the school family. The school recognise the demands of an ever changing world and convey to the pupils a sense of pride and confidence in their ability to meet the challenges ahead of them.
