Background:

Opened in 1972, the school was built on the site of the former Winchester Lodge Preparatory for Boys. It was extended in 1989 as a replacement for Torwood CE School and Madrepore Road annexe, and now offers 13 classes. Facilities include 12 classrooms, two of which are temporary, a nursery, large hall, two playgrounds, large computer suite with 18 PCs, and separate libraries for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Two sports fields adjacent to the school are used for play in summer and games such as football, rounders and athletics. The field are also used by a neighbouring school, Ellacombe. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, cricket, street dancing, fitness, art, country dancing, recorder, violin, gymnastics, choir, athletics, science, computers, chess and drama. Warberry provides equal opportunities for all children and consideration is given to all children with special educational needs (SEN) including the most able and those with learning difficulties, physical disabilities or emotional problems. Warberry was awarded Beacon school status in 2001 and as such is 'committed to providing high quality support to other schools'.
