Background:
The small primary school serves the educational needs of children in the village of Loddiswell and its surrounding area. The building has been completely remodelled and offers three good classrooms, a craft/small teaching area, multi-purpose hall, library, garden, playground, kiln and school field with nursery of native trees, meadow and sports areas. The school is fortunate in having a 'rich variety of good quality resources'. In addition to the National Curriculum, pupils learn gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming and recorder. Piano, cello, guitar, violin and clarinet are taught by peripatetic teachers. Extra-curricular activities include musical activities, dance, football, tag rugby, netball, rounders, cricket and kwik cricket. The school has a 'strong tradition' of sporting excellence and has won many sporting trophies. There is an active parents, teachers and friends association. Loddiswell Prmary was awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark in 2000 and is 'regarded as a model small school in the county'.
