Background:

High Street Primary School is a primary and nursery school for boys and girls. The age range of the pupils is three to 11. The accommodation at the school is comprised of the original main two-storey building, erected in 1894. The main building has been refurbished and contains a hall and dining room, school canteen, staff room, headteacher's office and secretary's office. The upper storey accommodation includes a central resources room, three classrooms, a library and an ICT suite. In 1975 two new buildings were added to the school in order to provide a self contained infant block consisting of four classrooms with a large practical area and also a purpose-built nursery unit with its own outdoor play area. There are two large tarmac playgrounds: one at the front site of the main building, which is currently used as a car park, and one at the rear. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include netball, football, country dancing and various trips in this country and abroad. The school aims to provide a caring, secure, family environment where each child is valued as an individual who is able to benefit from and contribute to the life of the school, regardless of gender, race, creed or disability.
