Background:
The school was built in 1968 in the village of Elburton, now a suburb of Plymstock. It is set in 'extensive' grounds with views of the hills of Dartmoor. It offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum which includes 'carefully planned' physical education activities including games, gymnastics, dance, and swimming in the school's on-site pool. Children can learn the recorder and sing in the choir. Extra-curricular clubs are offered in a range of sporting, craft and musical activities. The school 'strongly values' links with the community and with parents, who are welcomed into the school for a range of activities. There is a 'very strong' parent teacher association which raises substantial funds for the benefit of pupils. 'Children are encouraged to reach their full potential in a happy and caring environment.' A 'very popular school with a high reputation', Elburton Primary is over-subscribed, receiving 1.2 applications for each place.
