Background:
Chulmleigh Primary School is a small, thriving rural school housed in a modern building. It has a hall where the whole school can assemble, separate playgrounds for infants and juniors and a large playing field where children are actively encouraged to play co-operatively with a wide variety of equipment. Play spaces are supervised. The school has butterfly garden and wildlife pond area are used as outdoors classrooms, bringing science, geography and art lessons to life. Excellent locally sourced mid-day meals are produced in our own kitchen. There is a well-equipped library. It has a computer suite with 15 PC's with Internet access where whole or half class teaching can take place. Investors in People Award have recently awarded the school. Close to the school is the local Community College, with its tennis courts, flood-lit multi use games area, indoor sports facilities, public library, resource and information centre. It is able to share many of these facilities and enjoys close co-operation and liaison between the staff of the two schools. A sports hall containing basketball courts, cricket nets and cardiovascular room completed in February 2006.
