Background:
Situated on edge of village of Stoke Fleming in pleasant area on south Devon coast; orginally built in late 19th century; latest extension completed in 2004, including ICT suite, administration offices, and classroom. Most children come from village, nearby hamlets, and Dartmouth. Exceptional grounds, with large field, small enclosed garden, allotment where vegetables are grown and sold to parents; wildlife area with pond being developed. Specialist teachers to teach music, French and textile technology. Variety of extra-curricular activities include gardeneing, Charistmas card-making, football and drama. Close community links; involvement in local music events. Year 6 children take part annually in national public-speaking competition run by Rotary Club; pupils sing in local nursing homes and hospital at Christmas. School has taken over school kitchen; local, fresh and organic food provided as much as possible; children encouraged to drink water throughout the day. School council. DfES achievement award (2003).
