Background:
Built in 1916, the school overlooks the Devon countryside and Woolacombe Bay. The 'extensive' grounds comprise basketball and playground activity areas, a learner swimming pool and an adventure trail and conservation area. The school also has a networked information technology suite and a music room. The curriculum is complemented with Year 3 and 4 arts-based residential visits and outdoor-pursuits visits for Years 5 and 6. In alternate years there is a theatre trip to London's West End. All children have weekly swimming lessons. Other clubs on offer include football, choir, performing arts, cookery and keyboard, and are usually held at lunchtimes. There are 'firm' links with the local church. Fundraising is an important part of school life, and resources are provided through activities such as the annual fete and barbecue and themed evenings, organised by The Parents Friends and Teachers Association. The school aims to have an effective and happy learning environment and to ensure that all pupils are confident, happy, have high self-esteem and believe in themselves and what they can offer others.
