Background:
Blackawton Primary was founded in the late 19th century and retains its original, traditional buildings. These have been extensively refurbished and updated and now include a hall for physical education and drama, a library and music room and a cooking and craft room. The school grounds contain a playground, a playing field, an environmental area designed by the pupils and an outdoor swimming pool. Clubs on offer include sports, gardening, art and craft and various orchestral groups. Considerable emphasis is placed on creative arts and the school has a good reputation for the quality of work, which it produces in this field. Children learn a variety of musical instruments. The school benefits from a high level of parental involvement and a supportive community, working in many ways with community groups and individuals.
