Background:
Bickleigh on Exe Church of England Primary School was founded in 1841 on land donated by the Revd Thomas Carew, rector of Bickleigh. It moved to its current site in 1960, where it occupies a single-storey building. It has been remodelled in recent years and a four classroom block added to the rear of the school. Bickleigh now has five classrooms and the facilities to achieve a broad curriculum. Beyond the buildings the school get pleasure from picturesque views of the Exe Valley and grounds that include a community orchard, copse and pond, adventure play apparatus, ample grassed and hard playing surfaces and an environmental area. The school provides many extra opportunities at lunchtime and after-school. These facilities include chess club, dance, netball, ballet, French, table tennis, football, art club and choir. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.
